Welcome to the Santa Maria. This is a map of Ricon Grande and Tamul Canyons. These have the best whitewater and can be run in a day.

Most of the rapids in Rincon Grande are simple class IIs or IIIs. El Exprimador sometimes called the Siphon is a tight class V -- scouted or portaged on the left.

labyrinth Make note of this long stretch without rapids. One of the easier rapids in the Tamul Canyon. El Laberinto is more than 200 meters of linked drops. The rest of the rapids, there are a dozen more difficult than this, are in the class IV range. Depending on your point of view, there are three class Vs as well.

Tanchachin is the usual take-out for the Santa Maria. Downstream of Tamul, the river changes names to El Tampaon -- a great class III run with tons of great squirting and play.
