 Whitewater Kayaking in Mexico
girls kayaking

Mexico is the whitewater secret of Latin America. Uncrowded rivers, every class of rapids, warm water and hundreds of waterfalls make Mexico a paddling paradise. We can take you to roaring class V, teach you the basics of kayaking on a gentle stream, or fill your photo albums with pictures of you flying off blue waterfalls.

Check out our trip descriptions to see which one is for you. We've been running whitewater trips in Mexico for over a decade. We've picked our favorite rivers, organized our operations and, over the years, developed the biggest and best whitewater kayaking company in Mexico.

What is Expediciones Agua Azul? We are an adventure travel company specializing in whitewater kayaking trips in Mexico. We also offer kayak instruction in Mexico and Idaho and learn to surf camps (on a surf board) in Guerrero Mexico

Who can go on our trips? Our trips are designed with the intermediate through advanced paddler. But we have a full staff of ACA certified instructors and can customize your week to accommodate any ability -- from first time kayakers to rodeo clinics. Participants of all ability and skill levels, ages 8 through adult are invited to paddle with us in Mexico.

How do our trips work? We provide, lodging, shuttles, food, guiding, kayaks and all the off and on-river support to make your trip run smooth. All you have to do is sign up for a trip, buy a ticket to Mexico and bring your helmet, lifevest, sprayskirt and paddle. Don't forget some clothes and a toothbrush.

Where are our Trips? Summers in Idaho, Winters in Mexico. In Idaho we are based on the Payette River 30 minutes north of Boise. In Mexico, we base near Huatulco, Oaxaca for October and November and move to the Santa Maria in SLP for December and January to take advantage of river levels and climate. In the February we tap into the southern swells and waves of the Pacific and start our Surf camps in Guerrero.

Our Guides and Instructors. We have a full staff of ACA certified instructors.

The Santa Maria is our most popular trip. The whitewater is challenging and diverse. The major attraction of our Santa Maria trip are the dozens of waterfalls and turquoise blue water. Not to mention the rustic atmosphere and the stunning countryside. The surrounding area, known as La Huasteca Potosina, is famous throughout Mexico for the rivers, mountains and waterfalls. Your average tourist never gets a glimpse of what we see from our kayaks.

Oaxaca might have the best rivers in North America. It definitly has some of the best of Mexico. The rivers are fantastic. So is the whole Oaxaca scene. From discos and tourist trappings to rustic fincas and that end of the world feeling, Oaxaca has yet to find its niche. For kayakers it's well worth finding. The rivers are similar to the granite canyons of the California Sierras. If you choose the Class V Oaxaca Itinerary, these are the toughest rapids we run commercially. The forest is high canopy and the beaches are tropical visions with swaying palms and clean white sand. All the runs feature great play paddling and water so clean you can drink it, but so warm you won't want to.

The rivers in Veracruz have conventional rapids and are surrounded by a lush jungle. The nearby villages and towns are, on some unquantified scale, more modern and wealthy. We recommend trying all three trips.
